Teen charged in overpass graffiti incident

Hamilton police have nabbed a man in one incident and believe he is responsible for graffiti on several road overpasses.

Just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, an off-duty police officer passed a young man along the Linc at the Upper Wentworth Street underpass.

The officer called in a report and watched as the suspect continued to spray-paint the concrete structure.

Other officers arrived and a 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident. Police say they also found spray paint cans inside a backpack.

“We have not had contact with him before but do believe he is responsible for additional areas of graffiti,” said Constable Debbie McGreal-Dinning.

She wouldn’t comment further so as not to “glorify the work of the tagger.”

Christopher Araujo, 19, of Hamilton, was held for a bail hearing and charged with mischief under $5,000.
