Graffiti threat closes École Christine Morrison Elementary in Mission

École Christine Morrison Elementary, in Mission, B.C., has been closed for the day Tuesday, because of some threatening graffiti painted on the school.

Assistant superintendent Randy Huth says the graffiti was discovered on Monday, and the RCMP recommended the school be shut down today.

Huth won’t discuss the specifics of the graffiti message, but confirmed the threat was specific to today, and disturbing. District staff have since painted over the message.

Many parents were notified about the closure by telephone on Monday and Tuesday morning.

Huth says the conversations have been difficult, but for the most parts parents have been understanding, and supportive of the decision to close the school.

District officials expect the school will reopen on Wednesday.

The school, which is one of the largest elementary schools in Mission, B.C., has both French immersion and English programs for about 450 students from kindergarten to grade six.
