DETROIT — Most people like to work their way up to the more difficult tricks. Ryan Sheckler, however, does not subscribe to that theory. Within the first 20 minutes of skating the Red Bull Hart Lines course for the first time, Sheckler hammered a kickflip off the big section over Tom’s Garden to the flats.
Sheckler was kind enough to let us mic him up to get a better understanding of the process it takes to dial in a run for the weekend. Watch it happen in the video above.
Day 1 of Hart Lines was all about getting comfortable with the different lines the course has to offer. It’s not your standard course the guys are accustomed to skating, so it will take a bit of trial and error to figure out what’s possible.
Something you won’t see in most sports but was witnessed many times during Hart Lines practice: Skaters helped each other figure out how to attack the contest. It became a team effort to identify the best way to approach the different lines. Can you imagine watching Tom Brady and Peyton Manning share advice on how to beat each other days before they battled on the field?
Stay tuned this week for more exclusive clips of the skaters creating what they hope to be their winning runs. And mark your calendars for the Red Bull Hart Lines final on NBC as part of the Red Bull Signature Series on Aug. 1 at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT.
